V-Day
For nearly six years, the world slogged through the Second World War. What a relief it must have been to hear the news of victory broadcasted over radios and printed in newspapers throughout the world. May 8, 1945, was Victory in Europe Day and September 2, 1945, was Victory over Japan Day. Both were filled with festivities, for the victors saw the enemies of liberty crumble and fall. Will those days ever be reversed? No, they are settled in the annals of history. No man or nation can ever take that victory away.
In 2 Samuel 23, you will find a fascinating record of King David’s most valiant men. Shammah was one of those men and he experienced a dark day. Philistines rushed into the land, terrorizing the people. While many fled and would have handed over the land to the enemy without a fight, Shammah stood his ground. He stood in the middle of a small plot of lentils and defended it. It did not matter what the ground was, He would not allow the enemy to take it without a fight. 2 Samuel 23:13 says, “The Lord wrought a great victory.”
While daily battling the faceless enemies in your spiritual battles, it is encouraging to know the end of the story. Their defeat is announced throughout the Bible. Paul really loved to encourage other believers to stay in the fight and not give up. He wrote, “Now thanks be unto God, which always causeth us to triumph in Christ” (2 Corinthians 2:14). He also exclaimed, “If God be for us, who can be against us?” (Romans 8:31). God gave all He had when He sent His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ, to die on the cross. Death was defeated. Satan’s time is drawing to a close. Is there anything that can rip us from the love of God? Can difficulties, hard times, persecutions, famine, nakedness, danger or violence? Can they take that away from you? They never can because it is already V-Day for every believer. “We are more than conquerors through him that loved us” (Romans 8:37). Just like Shammah, you can stand and protect the precious territory of your heart from the enemy. Stand valiantly in those evil days. Fight with the courage, for you can do all things through Christ who strengthens you. He will work a great victory through you.
