The question asked in Psalm 24:8 is “Who is this King of glory?” David knew perfectly well. So why ask the question? Out of adoration I am sure. Mankind inhabits this world as if we created it. However, the Bible clearly states its origin(Gen. 1:1, Jn. 1:1-3). Yet most of us cruise this earth as if we made it. Moreover we act as if planet earth is our personal Walmart (it is mine for the taking is our attitude). Sadly, most do not know the King of Glory. Most give their adoration and praise to man for this grand world. “Know ye that the LORD he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture” (Ps. 100:3).
We reside on this earth at the mercy of the King of Glory. Famous preacher of yesteryear, Charles Spurgeon said it best, “He is but a tenant at will-a leaseholder upon most precarious tenure, liable to instantaneous ejectment. The great Landowner and true Proprietor holds His court above the clouds, and laughs at the title-deeds of worms of the dust. The fee-simple is not with the lord of the manor, nor the freeholder, but with the Creator.” The part that jumps out at me is the “instantaneous ejection!” God does not owe anyone a 30 day eviction notice; yet we live on His earth as if we will live forever.
Come to think of it we will live forever, but not necessarily at the address of our desire. Having moved a “zillion” times in our life together (or so it seemed), my wife and I always chose ahead what our new address would be. We would research a prospective area well before we made a decision. Never did we move blindly. However, many are moving about today with no thought (or care) of their future residence. I am alluding to where each of us will spend eternity.
My wife and I spent most of our lives not too interested in our eternal abode. We figured strongly that it would not be Heaven, due to our sinful natures. But, like most, we put off worrying about it until later. I heard an old preacher say, “Never wait to give your life to Christ at the eleventh hour, because He might come for you at ten thirty.” Instantaneous ejection!
The choice is ours. We all must make an individual decision. Thirty some years ago I was under such Holy Ghost conviction that I made a choice – the King of Glory. I recognized I was a sinner, received forgiveness from Christ, asked Him into my life, received an eternal address change (Rom 10: 9,10,13) and now trust Him fully. Like David I ask, “Who is this King of Glory? The LORD strong and mighty, the LORD mighty in battle…The LORD of hosts, he is the King of glory.” (Ps. 24:8,10). His name is Jesus!
