An Agent for Change

One of the many things that sets us apart from God is our lack of consistency. Isaiah 1 is another reminder of how Israel has fallen… again! Isaiah 1:4 says, “Ah sinful nation, a people laden with iniquity, a seed of evildoers, children that are corrupters: they have forsaken the Lord, they have provoked the Holy One of Israel unto anger, they are gone away backward.” What makes us forget the goodness of God? Why does mankind seem to always go through cycles of forgetting how God has provided and cared for His people by His means? The answer to that is simply sin. We stop depending on God. Life becomes comfortable. Our economic status and national security seem to be our source of security. The problem is those things fade and change, but God never does.

I remember seeing images of riots in other countries when I was a child, and thinking I was so glad to be here in America where those things don’t happen. Oh how things have changed! How does America turn back to God? He tells us exactly how to do that. Isaiah 1:16-17 gives us a list of things to monitor in ourselves and to pray that other Christians take to heart and do.

1-    “Wash you, make you clean…” Confess your sin and keep short accounts with God.
2-    “Put away the evil of your doings; cease to do evil…” Repent and turn away from those secret and open sins.
3-    “Learn to do well; seek judgement, relieve the oppressed, judge the fatherless, plead for the widow…” Seek justice and right living especially when it comes to matters of the home.

World change begins with personal change. Be an agent for change today!
