Judge, Lawgiver, and King

Judge, Lawgiver, and King

“For the Lord is our Judge; the Lord is our Lawgiver, the Lord is our King; he will save us.” (Isaiah 33:22) How much more peace of mind can you receive in one verse?

Our Judge:

I always hear two things from co-workers when I bring up God, or when they confront me about God. They will usually have a story about a church they used to go to, that was full of hypocrites, or how quickly everyone is to judge them. I always agree with them about both, and then tell them that unfortunately, that is in every church. Then, I tell them that I’m not their judge, and that only God is. The conversation usually comes to an end there, but you can always see the wheels turning in their minds. As Christians, how great is it to know that we have a God that uses righteous judgement? Psalm 96:13 says, “He shall judge the world with righteousness,” and Acts 17:31 states,”…He shall judge the world in righteousness.”

Our Lawgiver:

When I think of God being the Lawgiver, I think of the Ten Commandments, which He gave to Moses on Mt. Sinai, in the book of Exodus. It’s amazing to think of the Law God gave us (all of humanity) to live by. Just think! After thousands of years, it still applies to us as much today as it did then. Another thing to think of, is how all men have it written on their conscience whether they’ve heard God’s Word, or not. James 4:12 says, “There is one Lawgiver, who is able to save and to destroy…”

Our King:

There is one and only one King I will humbly serve, and bow before. The only King that is 100% Truth and Grace. He is the only King that is three in one. That is, God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. It’s interesting to me that in Isaiah 33:22, it has three different titles that our Lord is named. To think our King has, and will reign forever and ever. There is so much peace of mind knowing who we have as King. 1 Timothy 1:17, “Now unto the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only wise God, be honour and glory for ever and ever. Amen.”
