Ours For The Asking

Ours For The Asking

With all the things going on today, wisdom is abounding everywhere; or so it seems. Every reporter has a different angle, every politician an ulterior motive, and every human has their own theory. There are many brilliant folk out there; from doctors and scientists, to preachers of the Gospel. Everybody wants answers now. And they expect the right ones or else they are ostracized by the news media. One simple word we fail to remember is ‘novel’. Simply put- this virus is something new. We do not have a total grip on it yet. Mostly it’s trial and error. One may say this whole scenario is an example of on the job training or flying by the seat of one’s pants. With God’s help alone some wise person will start to figure it out.

They key to any problem in this world is to grasp what Proverbs 24:14 says, “So shall the knowledge of wisdom be unto thy soul: when thou hast found it, then there shall be a reward, and thy expectation shall not be cut off.” Do we need to go to school for ten years and gain wisdom- no! All of us have known highly educated people who don’t have sense to step into the barn when it’s pouring out. They have been in the education seat for so long they have barnacles on their trousers and spiders have spun webs in their brain-keeping them from ‘the knowledge’ of wisdom. You can go to college, read the entire library and attend every lecture. Yes you would be wise, but not possess the ‘knowledge’ of it. In essence, you would not know how to apply your learning.

Where do you get this ‘knowledge of wisdom’? From God’s Word. “If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him” (James 1:5). Only by applying God’s principles, can someone figure it out. Our government has a task force for Covid, but I propose a prayer task force. Men and women should be meeting everyday in government halls seeking God. Until our leaders recognize the importance of prayer and turning to God, we will proceed down this bumpy road.

Whether they do or not, we can still seek God individually. We can pray to Him for the ‘knowledge” to apply the wisdom He will give if we but ask. “But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy” (James 3:17). God is in full control. Nothing takes Him by surprise. Maybe the formula for the eradication of this virus isn’t explicit in the Bible, but if learned folk would seek its pages, God would give them this knowledge of wisdom.
