Once saved, always saved, is something I’ve heard often from brothers and sisters in Christ. I agree 100%, once you’re saved you’re always saved. Recently I was listening to my favorite podcast and the topic of discussion was true and false conversion. They were talking about fellow believers saying once saved, always saved, and what one of the men likes to say instead is “if saved always saved.” Now I don’t know anyone’s heart, only God knows that, but I thought what he just said was pretty powerful. It made me think of how there’s so many people out there who say they’ve been saved but still live in sin and go about their daily lives without change after being born again. I’m not trying to judge anyone, but if there hasn't been repentance there’s likely no salvation.
In Matthew 3:2 and 4:17, we see John the Baptist and Jesus both preach “Repent; for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.” Repentance, I feel, gets somehow lost. Like it’s written in fine print and continually gets looked over. Look at Acts 3:19 “ Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord.” Acts 17:30, “And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent:” It’s commanded that all men, not some, but all men everywhere repent.
So if your talking to a co-worker or friend about salvation and the tell you they’ve been saved but you can clearly see the need of repentance by the way they cuss, blaspheme, lie, and lust. I would use righteous judgement knowing that we are also sinners and tell them about repentance. Acts 20:21 “Testifying both to the Jews, and also to the Greeks, repentance toward God, and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ.”
"If my six-year-old daughter was out on the road playing in front of my house and I saw a huge truck barreling around the corner, what would I do in the moment? Out of my love for my daughter I would not gently invite her to step away from the street. I would COMMAND her to change direction, and get off the road! Why? Because of my love for her. I know that the truck would not be able to stop in time it would run her over and kill her. The same is true of the Fathers love for us. Out of His love, He commands us to repent, because at any moment the truck of sin and death could run us over for playing on the road of rebellion!” - Rob Price
