Good things come in small packages. How many women’s eyes have gleamed at the presentation of a small, ring sized box. I refer to my wife as such; seeing she is a blessing from God, wrapped in a small package. To me she has given this saying a perfect meaning. However, my point here is the Book of Jude. It definitely is a good thing and in a small package; only a chapter in length. What can be said of Jude can be said of the whole Bible. One cannot read either, sincerely, without discovering the truth. Jude is similar to those Reader’s Digest condensed books and serves as a stern warning to the false teachers of centuries ago and of the charlatans amongst us today.
Jude reminds me of Peter in his use of descriptive words. “For there are certain men crept in unawares, who were before of old ordained to this condemnation, ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness, and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ…Likewise also these filthy dreamers defile the flesh, despise dominion, and speak evil of dignities…But these speak evil of those things which they know not: but what they know naturally, as brute beasts, in those things they corrupt themselves…These are spots in your feasts of charity…clouds they are without water, carried about of winds; trees whose fruit withereth, without fruit, twice dead, plucked up by the roots…Raging waves…wandering stars… murmurers, complainers, walking after their own lusts; and their mouth speaketh great swelling words…” (Jude 4,8,10,12,13 and 16). Peter concurs in 2 Peter 2:1,12,13,17 “But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction…natural brute beasts…spots…blemishes…wells without water…and clouds”.
The Holy Spirit has given us two small packages (Jude and 2 Peter) to forewarn us of these “seed pickers”. We as Bible-believing folk need to mark them, turn the television off, warn against them and those who follow them. We are to tell it like it is- God’s way!
