“Judgments are prepared for scorners, and stripes for the back of fools” (Proverbs 19:29). It seems many are asking whether this contagion is of God. I have seen several interviews on television and on the internet news and they all have one thing in common- they cannot say for sure. With that said, if you were to ask me I would agree that I cannot say with any certainty and neither could you. Anyone who stands firm on the ‘God did this to us’ premise is a fool. No one can speak for God.
But, who is to say it is not of God. I would not venture into those waters either, but I will admit its possibility. God gives signs for us to know when He is displeased with something, or that the end is nearing. Using God’s Word can provide enough knowledge to keep us in check either way. Jesus tells us in Matthew 24:3-7, “And as he sat upon the mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world? And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you. For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many. And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places.
I read that on any given day there are approximately 2500 people who believe they are Jesus in this world. There are plenty of wars taking place as I write and some potential conflicts that could start the end. Certainly famines scar the world we live in (even in our own abundant land). Earthquakes, in the last few weeks, have struck in places they haven’t before (divers places). Lastly pestilences. They have been with this world since the beginning, but only God knows if this verse could be referring to this modern day organism, rapidly spreading across the globe. All of the aforementioned are occurring at this very minute. So if we listen to Jesus, the time could very well be at hand for the start of things to come!
Is the stage set for these events? Let us end where we started. “Judgments are prepared for scorners, and stripes for the back of fools” (Proverbs 19:29). Surely this world lacks not fools and scorners. But believer in Christ, Jesus tells us “be not troubled.” Unbeliever, time is running out for you to come to Christ in faith, asking for forgiveness and recognizing His sacrifice on a cruel cross.
