The number “1” is a small, but powerful number. In sports, if you’re ranked #1, you’re considered the best. If you take 1st place at something, you get most of the recognition. You always remember the team of someone who takes 1st place, and quickly forget the runner-ups. This is why it is so important to keep God number one in your life. Once He loses his number one spot, it’s amazing how quickly He falls to number two, three, four, five….and on and on down the list, until He’s out of our lives. One of our goals, as Christians, should be to make sure we keep Him on top of the podium. This is why we see throughout scripture God constantly saying, “I am the Lord; and there is none else.” (Isaiah 45:18) Once God leaves that #1 rank, it means we’ve put something of this world in His spot.
In Isaiah 45, we see him repeat five times that God says “I am the Lord, and there is none else.” God is telling us that he is the one and only God. All other gods man has made to meet their own desires of their carnal lives. These gods will only provide a temporary pleasure, as opposed to our God’s rewards being eternal. God has also made it possible to get to heaven. There is only one way that it is possible. You ask him to forgive you of your sins, and trust that his Son, Jesus Christ, died and rose again on the third day for our sins. Only then can we enjoy living with the One and Only forever and ever.
