Psalm 89:1-52
Praise Through Pain

We explore Psalm 89 as it connects to the theme of walking with God from Leviticus. Can we praise God even when circumstances seem unlikely to work out as we hoped? The power of Scripture reading in corporate worship sets the foundation for understanding this profound psalm. God’s exaltation is a central theme throughout the psalm. This exaltation carries into the New Testament, where we become co-inheritors with Christ. While God doesn’t share His glory, He welcomes His family to enjoy His exaltation. Though Israel fell into sin and faced punishment, God never fully cast them off. Even when David’s line seemed extinguished, God remained faithful to His covenant. Like a root sprouting from a cut-off trunk, God’s promises endure. God’s selection of David and Israel wasn’t about making them special, but about blessing others through them. This pattern continues through Christ - God chooses people not for exclusivity but to draw others to know Him more fully. Just as God stills the raging sea, He remains present in our troubles and heartaches. Like Jesus calming the storm while the disciples feared, we’re reminded not to worry about what’s around us when we have Him with us.
